Sad to have lost such a personality, voice. Historically, it's interesting to hear Talvela so close to the untimely end. He was a brilliant artist and seems unlike any a soloist here, but rather like any other committed musician in the pit. It is rare to fine singers with these qualities today. Thanks for the upload

NO, this is NOT the Shostakóvich arrangement!! That one's much better than here - this one's overdone!!
Shostakóvich, much as he gives plenty of work to the brass and percussion, nevertheless knew where to draw the line at using them too much - this arranger in that way shows his inferiority...
