Last month's biggest busybody was the New York politician who's waging a war on salt.

This month's top honors could have gone to the US senator who wants to block betting on box office sales or the Silicon Valley pol who yanked toys from kids' meals.

But the Nanny of the Month goes to the North Carolina cop who clamped down on tax day protestors' right to carry flags and signs because he feared Old Glory might be used as a weapon. (Hey, we can't have those tea party loons goring people with flag poles!)

Presenting Reason.tv's Nanny of the Month for April 2010: State Capitol Police Chief Scott Hunter!

  • Moronic laws get passed when the People allow them to be passed. Each one chips away at personal freedoms. Anything 'For the common good", or "For your own good" is a dead give away. Meanwhile, politicians behave like Caligula while taking more money and choices away from you. The People must respond as many times as necessary, until our throats burn: "It's none of the government's fucking business!"

  • Since when have cops been authorized to write laws? If Scott Hunter believes he can alter, or write laws, he's more of an idiot than I thought. Law writing is the Legislatures duty, NOT some self-absorbed cop!

  • These "nanny of the month" is the one draw back of living in a well off free country....PEOPLE HAVE WAAAAYYY TOO MUCH TIME ON THERE HANDS

  • Hey it's not a concealed weapon lol. Had to laugh when I say Gibson. Yeah, we got to take the Teas favorite weapon away. Maybe every protester all across America should only hold postcards no one can read from a car.

Big government is a pain in the ass, but at least it's funny.

  • @squirreljester2, yes, rules and guidelines for how to properly display the flag, not laws. Besides, none of them deal with flag related violence.

  • though if your were gonna stabb someone, a flag would be a pretty badass way to do it. Dont forget the cheesy one-liner

  • You have to be kidding me!! All I have to say is ON TOWARDS NOVEMBER 2ND! ;)

  • @Apptendo Indeed! That's why it's best to leave maximum power to the people. If freedom is allowed on a particular issue, then you don't worry about majorities making decisions for you.

  • Actually there's a whole host of rules about how you are supposed to display the American flag, look them up, and I'll bet most of you have broken at least one of the rules in the list.

  • As a libertarian and father of two kids, i don't see an issue with restricting toys in kids fastfood. Theoretically, parents could avoid all the pitfalls on the road and on TV. In reality, we're all paying for an obesity pandemic. Having a business that accepts public currency comes with obligations, especially when serving food. Liberty is not one-sided.
