Hotspot #1 - Rochelle, IL

Rochelle, IL is where the BNSF and UP mainline cross. It is home to the Rochelle Railroad Park, open since 1998, and built due to the popularity of the diamond area even before the park existed. On average, Rochelle easily sees over 100 trains a day, with 70+ on the UP and 25-35 on the BNSF.

Only 50 on the UP? Thats slow! I've never stayed at Rochelle but I stayed in a hotel next to the tracks at De Kalb once and saw 74. Last time I went to Rochelle I was probably there 5 hours and saw around 30 trains, including three meets.

What year did you tape these trains? In the first part, there are mechanical bells on those crossings.

Just curious if you have ever stayed 24 hours here. I can see BNSF putting 25 through here, but I dont know about 35. And 70 on UP probably happens, but I stayed 24 in Malta earlier this year and didnt even get 50. If you've seen over than 100 here than let me know! But as far as I know, it is just a myth.
