  • It's not a roll cast. With a roll cast, the caster forms a static D loop behind the rod. You lift the rod and carry a small amount of line behind the rod in the air; most of the line sits on the water and can stay there until you execute the forward cast. With the Poke, a dynamic loop is formed behind the rod; most of the line is moving and off the water before the forward cast is made. If you let the line settle onto the water as loop is formed (as in a roll cast), this cast won't work.

  • @fistle like the vid says, "ideal for sink tips and large flies"; the single spey has some limitations there.
