Safer 6 in Sandwell - Safer Travel operation at West Bromwich bus station

SANDWELL police and partners kicked off Safer 6 with a Safer Travel operation at West Bromwich bus station on Monday 26 September.

Officers from the Safer Travel team installed two knife arches at the entrance to the station from Kings Square, for all commuters to pass through. The arches detect metal and officers were on the lookout for concealed weapons.

Kye, a passive drugs dog from British Transport Police was also on hand to sniff out anyone carrying illegal substances.

Many of the commuters commended the police on their actions to make traveling on public transport a safe experience. They were happy to walk through the knife arches, which primarily detect metal. This operation was conducted at only one of the accesses to the bus station.

I honestly think this is a little bit overkill, although I would be happy to see that sort of police presence at nightime when there is more of a possiblity of being mugged or attacked.

One has to ask, why are these measures being put into practice. Armed police checking the populace even making them go through check points. Meanwhile the underlying causes of crime (no livelihoods, poisonous education, synthesised poverty) combined with the overt criminality of central, county and district government is increased.
