I like this version. I have the song on a Christmas album that the Lennon Sisters put out. Al Burt was a friend and bandmate of Alvino Rey. He wrote Christmas carols every year that he put on his Christmas cards. The King Sisters were the first to record his carols, and they also sang them on their specials.

@Ne14Gr8Music Thank you for the data on this sublime Christmas hymn! It's what parents should play for their little ones before each Christmas (and on Christmas Eve). I've heard the other versions, but, this one is simple, gentle, and still very reverent (just what the world needed during the Vietnam war era at Christmas). Many thanks! A Joyful and Hopeful Christmas 2011 to all of those who listen to this wondrous song! Thank Heaven for WT Grant company and Simon and Garfunkel!

All the artists on that Grants record were (and remain) wondrous! WT Grant was a fantastic store. Thank you, for posting this nearly-lost classic by two of the finest singer/songwriters of all time! This is a great song to play for little ones as they go to sleep on December nights before (and on) Christmas Eve. THIS is what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown! A Heavenly Christmas to my Heavenly-Resplendent Wife, Barbra, (in Heaven as of Nov. 21/22, 2010). Barbra - I love you beyond Time!

@RaymondTVinyl - Actually, it can be found in a couple of other places. In 1981 it was included in a Columbia various-artists compilation called "Dreaming of a White Christmas" (which was briefly reissued on CD in the early '90s). And in 1997 it was included on the 3-CD "Old Friends" box set, along with another Christmas song, the previously-unreleased "Comfort and Joy"; the two songs were originally recorded for a 1967 holiday single which was never released.

Oh, by the way, the cover is a 60's pop-art optical illusion. If you stare at it, the green bulbs/lights *blink* :-)

I have this LP too :-) Great viddie

My favorite Christmas Album of all time...I grew up with this record and played it to death...resulting in lots of pops and scratches...then several years ago I found a PRISTINE copy of it on eBay. The Star Carol can also be found on one of the Simon and Garfunkel boxed sets...and is available as an MP3 download on Amazon.com for 99 cents.
The best version of this. I've listened to 'em all. Aaron Neville's version comes close as does Peggy Lee's, but this version has such a pure simplicity.

I've never heard of this Christmas song! Very cool!

@cbfall This was written by Wihla Hutson & Alfred S. Burt in 1954. It has been recorded by a variety of other artists like Tennessee Ernie Ford, Peggy Lee, and Aaron Neville, I have Ford's version and I'll post it too. Thanks!
