It's sad that this was released less than two weeks before the assassination attempt on the President. I don't agree that every new nation needs to go through these problems, or that the fact that others went throught them is an excuse. However, East Timor was badly treated by Portugal, Indonesia and the UN, which ensured that it got off to the worst possible start.
