The early years were their best years. Tracey Thorn's solo EP "A Distant Shore" is one of my all-time favorites. And the original incarnation as the Marine Girls were tops.
i love mozza, but cant you see by her appearance and movements, that in fact she was influenced by robert smith of the cure !! ebtg were great by the way !!
I think it's important to remember that EBTG and The Smiths were working simultaneously, so there was a lot of mutual influence (see the vid here on YouTube where Morrissey is critiquing a new EBTG song.) Oh course working with Johnny Marr on the track was a big influence. But I also think that Tracey/Ben's lyrics at this time were very, very critical of social constraints, also the same with Morrissey's lyrics. In any event, I've loved them both for ages :-)
Morrissey critiquing EBTG? Looks as though my The Smiths respect has just dropped a notch. Ben loves that band, by the way. One of the great things I noticed about Ben in these years is that he is INCREDIBLY modest and complimentary of people's music and tastes, including that of Morissey. If Morrissey was that stuck up, he can kiss my ass. Marr made the band musically, anyhow, if you ask me.
