My Bejing Olympic Games Opening Ceremony Watch Party

Had a potluck party with some friends from China to watch the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Opening Ceremony and enjoy some food together!

COLUMBIA - The Beijing ceremonies are miles away, but the ceremonies brought University of Missouri Chinese students closer together.

Some Chinese students watched the Olympic opening ceremonies with a sense on national pride.

Snow Dong just arrived in America on Friday. She left her home in Beijing before the Olympic's opening ceremony to get ready for her freshman year at Mizzou.

"Before I left Beijing I found there were a lot of changes such as the environment, the emotions of people and the traffic, the terrible traffic in Beijing," said Mizzou student, Snow Dong. Dong watched the ceremonies with a Chinese student group.

Members of the organization were invited by their banker Joseph Clemons who wanted to show them a bit of American hospitality.

"I'm just glad that I'm able to do something like this...Make a difference in their life and let them know the American culture," he explained.

Dong is battling jet-lag, but says the show was must-see TV. "I insist on watching the program here because I find this to be precious. It's my first night here and I can watch it on tv," she said.

This was a connection to her old home on her first night in a new one. Dong plans on majoring in Broadcast Journalism at Mizzou.
