Posted Tue. May 4, 2010. For better viewing, cursor over the 360p indicator and select 720pHD. I recently came across photos and clips I took at Portland State University on March 9, 2008 during planting of the flags for the "The Iraq Body Count Exhibit" which was displayed at Portland State University from March 9th until March 20th, 2008. Using 120,000 surveyor flags, the Exhibit represented American and Iraqi deaths caused as a result of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. 1 white flag = 5 Iraqi deaths; 1 red flag = 5 Americans. For most current casualties of both wars at: http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/war.casualties/index.html?hpt=C1
The music belies the activist spirit of the planting. It's The Horrors' "Scarlet Fields." Band and song titles and tone seemed to fit the display. This video doesn't nearly capture the volume of flags. For that, see this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y94sdHBlCpA
For more of the planting, see this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3x-hBc5YM0
