I had the opportunity to interview Hyunwoo Sun in person and ask him about how he learns languages. We did the interview in English.

You can find him on YouTube and see and hear him speaking other languages like Japanese, French or his native Korean. http://www.youtube.com/ever4one

And the short video we made right after this one shows me talking about my blog, can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_Gh0bj8ql8

You can find Hyunwoo's websites and what each is about by visiting his homepage at http://hyunwoosun.com/

  • This video is really a big inspiration for me. Many thanks for uploading it!

I am especially impressed that Hyunwoo makes conscious efforts to form sentences in English using the words or phrases that he has just learned, and I am motivated to do just the same.

After watching this video for the first time about a month ago, I've begun to make sentences in French, which is the language that I am currently focusing on.

Many thanks once again for the inspiration!

  • wow I am sitting here watching this now and really inspired to learn more korean. Yay!!

  • wow for somebody whose never been to america his american accent is really good.

  • Making sentences, trying to figure out how to say what you normally say from your native tongue to your target language has worked for me in Chinese so far. Will do the same in Korean. Thank you, Hyunwoo!

  • You have the right idea and no one can argue with your results!

Thanks for this wonderfully inspiring video.

  • That was really inspriing, I had no idea that he didn't stay in an English speaking country for me than a week o-o and he was able to learn that well! I definitely agree about what he said in books. A lot of stuff you read, isn't something you would normally use @_@ He's such an amazing teacher with Kyeuongen (sp) noona.

  • he teaches on talktomeinkorean and he is an AMAAAAAZING TEACHER the best i ever had

  • i do the same "imaginary friend/situation" technique when i want to practice my languages - i think it's a great thing to do when you're not surrounded by native speakers because it makes you think about how a problem can be solved by using your limited knowledge. And it's important not to give up if you can't solve your imaginary problem. You have to go on and rephrase, circumscribe everyhing until you think you've reached your goal. ^^

  • I will go to korea for first time next month and enjoy watching hyunwoo's videos. I've been learning japanese and korean and he really motivates me to continue because sometimes I find it so hard to learn. I can gather words but listening to foreigners speak is so fast and feels like I will never get to that level. Anyway.. thanks for the interview and subscribe to his channel people!!

  • Hi Hyunwoo!! ....I really enjoyed this video, I am learning Korean and was getting a little bummed. I found this video just when I needed it!

    Thanks KanjiKeith! !

  • He is just AWESOME!

  • Chinese and Spanish native accents can be easily faked. Chinese....there are so many dialects that people automatically assume you're a native over the phone unless you say that you aren't one. Spanish is similar only if you speak french or italian. If you speak English, the eng accent is easily picked up.
