Savannahs spine was crushing her brain stem, a condition that would cause agony and death if not corrected. Her doctor in New York felt the only surgeon who could help her was nearly 1,000 miles away, at UI Childrens Hospital. Savannahs family brought her to Iowa for the 12-hour procedure, and returned eight months later for follow-up surgery to correct the curvature of her spine. Today Savannah is enjoying her new lease on life and her fond memories of Iowa.
