If your stop tap is passing ( the water is not isolated with the tap in the closed position ) you probably need to replace the washer. This can only be done when the incoming water can be isolated at a point before the faulty stop tap. Brought to you by http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/forum1/

  • Greta video, and great series- thanks!

A couple of things- firstly I always like to take a quick look inside the valve before I screw in the tap unit just the check there's no crap in the way, and I always undo the tap to its fullest extent before screwing the tap unit back in, and then close the tap. Of course, if the tap is already open, then no problem!

    Thanks for the comment

  • The stop tap is leaking in my outside toilet and i was wondering what size washer did you use. On the rubber washers i have got the one side is flat and the other side isin't so do you know which side goes where.

They are normally half inch washers in stop taps supplied with 15mm connecting pipes.

The flat side normally faces into the tap, so that it faces the tap seat.
