  • I love the mahler 5 trumpet reference. I wonder if Mahler knew he was going to use this for his fifth when he wrote it in the fourth. But besides the music, I love these conductors. Muti is so intelligent and expressive. Its so true about what Abbado says about finding something new in the music every time you experience it.

  • The expression on Haitink's face at the end of the video is priceless.

  • @dcs103 I was wondering ab out that....cos all three conductors have worked with BPO and Abbado taking over general conductor after the death of Von Karajan.

  • @eliasbb Yes I love Haitink's expression..it's like Wunderbar-you guys got it!!! But such a interesting video as well as dvd to see the different conductors .....and of course Haitink and Abbado are Mahler specials!!!

  • Sounds like maestro Muti has perfect pitch. Notice his solfeg of the opening of the Mahler Fourth was in the same key as the recording of the same phrase that is superimposed on Muti's voice.

  • Thanks for posting. I could literally listen to these conductors talk about Mahler till I die, going through every moment of every bar. It's richness is inexhaustible.

  • no concertgebouw orchestra here... abbado rehearses the berlin phil, haitink is speaking german (suggesting also berlin?)
