With the arrival of replacement power soon approaching, here are three MARC GP40WH-2s bring trains to a stop on a snowy afternoon in Gaithersburg MD. Roaring EMD turbocharged 16-645 engines, Gyralites, and humming HEP motors signify these classic motors. Nicknamed "Rudolphs" because of their bright red noses, these engines were rebuilt my MK in Boise, ID from SD45/GP40/SDP40F parts in 1994.
I am going to miss those engines when their gone for good MBTA is leasing 5 of them now.

Great video, the GP40WH-2's are by far my favorite engine out there. Thanks for uploading all the videos of them!

These units might eventually find new homes at startup commuter operations in other parts of the country. New Hampshire is looking to start a commuter rail service in the next few years, and one of the potential operators has said they'll be looking to acquire used cars and locomotives to get the service going.

I believe MP36s. A recent episode of "Dirty Jobs" was at the MPI factory, in which it was said "this locomotive here, when finished, will sometime be doing commuter runs in Maryland." Couldn't be anyone else but MARC, right?

Nice! I believe the video is stretched vertically however, the trains look much too tall!
What will the replacement locomotives be?
