@UDRob I admit there are exceptions like Philly and Toronto, but Toronto had a minor league team in the area (Toronto Lynx) and Philly already had a strong supporters club (Sons of Ben) in place.

What the MLS learned from the Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers, and Vancouver Whitecaps is that for them to create an MLS team with a strong fanbase, the best course of action is to create a franchise based on an existing team. The Caps, Sounders, and Timbers were already USL Pro teams before they were made into MLS teams. And the lesson was not lost: the next MLS franchise will be based on NASL team Montreal Impact.

@korahaplayas the NW has had soccer roots since the 70's. alot of my friends dads and grandfathers went to the matches then.

@korahaplayas 1. We have a pretty awesome history in soccer. 2. We lost our basket ball team before the sounders started playing. 3. Big stadium to hold everyone.
