Melina Laboucan-Massimo, Lubicon Cree of Northern Alberta, indigenous rights advocate and Greenpeace Climate and Energy Campaigner, speaks as part of the "Making the Alberta Connection" panel, following a presentation by Rob Hopkins, co-founder of the Transition Town movement at Public Interest Alberta's 5th Annual Advocacy Conference, Mobilizing for a Better Alberta: Strong Communities, Public Solutions.

  • if many albertans do want the tar sands, their argument for it is always the same...jobs & the economy. i'm not sure, but i would like to think, that if these same people would learn the truth about the devastating environmental, social and health impacts of the tar sands & understand the motivation behind the p.r. propaganda of industry and the alberta/canadian governments, they would rally together and demand a cleaner more sustainable alternative in how albertans choose to get their energy.
