@redredredtoo Maybe not the Olympics 88 but think she should have made the podium and probably would have done had it not been for her weak compulsories.
What the judges should have done is awarded Ito 2nd on the Free programme which would have given Liz Manley the Gold, Sadly, many judges in the 70s/80s were very reluctant to upset the 'norm' unlike Sally Stapleford and Vanessa Riley, 2 British judges who did not give a damn.
I don't know. The audience seemed to get that there were better skaters who were not getting the marks! Midori Ito's program was superior in literally EVERY way from this, and the audience knew it. I noticed that they gave Witt rather lukewarm applause after both her short and long. I respect Witt for her consistency, but she was, without a doubt, over marked constantly.
@JUNGLEJIMY123 This was a fantastic Short Programme competition - one of the best ever. Ito had the best skate technically, Thomas and Cadavy had great difficult combos and Witt and Trenary the best artistic skates. Not to mention Liz Manley who I thought, personally had the best overall Short Prog but not many agree with me. These were the characters of figure skating which is clearly lacking nowadays. They all had their own styles and there were no clones. Bring back the old 6.0 please!
