June 1864: The once powerful Confederate States of America lay in ruins, as the American Civil War rages out of control. On June 19th, the most feared warship in the Confederate Navy, the cruiser CSS Alabama confronted the Union Mohican Class cruiser USS Kearsarge off the coast of Cherbourg France.

Following a gallent last stand the feared "Ghost Ship" plunged into the abyss, taking with her 21 of her 145 man crew, and signaling the beginning of the end for the once powerful Confederacy

  • I was born and raised in the USA, but I was raised to have an open mind. My belief is that History isn't black and white, but a confusing mess and the only way to prevent the mistakes of the past from repeating is to study every aspect, the good and the bad.

  • Next year, 2012 - we intend to celebrate Bulloch, who was never formally pardoned; and mark the launch of the Alabama, which never visited her home nation, not as an endorsement of war; but as a recognition of the many differences that still exist between men of different cultures and beliefs.

  • who's the singer please?

  • @Sakamachi25 So were your parents. But that didn't stop them.

  • @Blabloo72 They sailed her down to the Azores where she made a rendezvous with a couple other ships loaded with supplies and weapons. They spent a few days transferring all the provisions over to and Captain Semmes offered the crews of the other ships a signing bonus (as authorized by the Confederate Congress) and a share of prize money for ships taken. Many of the officers were Southrons but most of the crew were Brits.

  • I had family on board the Alabama. This is the most touching video I have ever witnessed. Snake has made me feel deeply of my heritage. I only wish I could repay him somehow for such beautiful work. My entire family has embraced this. you are a true American, thank you from the Brooks Family

  • to die with honor most importent by far

  • War is stupid.

  • yamamoto and bismark were glorious ships as well.

  • I am glad she escaped the yankees in Liverpool and became the legendary ship she became! God bless her! Think it was quite cool that as soon as she got into the middle of the Irish Sea the had a ceremony and changed her name on the spot. Britain was neutral don't forget (with secret leanings towards the South).

  • It was a close call. English authorities actually arrived at the yard to seize her only hours after she left. The way it happened, it was like providence.
