Theres other areas of the military flying besides dropping bombs. Im a C-130 loadmaster and have flown many trips with my crews around the world helping people. If you are ashamed of our military and honestly think we go around killing innocent people, then maybe you should consider living somewhere else. As far as being a commercial pilot, I've been one for several years. Almost all of commercial aviation supports the National Guard and Reserves and the job the military does in this country.

If the engine remains off for too long, will it become to cold to re-start? Even with the cowl flaps closed. I became fascinated with aviation after my first flight onboard a being 777. I've learned quite alot through the use of simulators and groundschool videos. Simulators are great for the theoretical knowledge! The only thing they dont provide is being in a real aircraft. do you use reduced flap setting for single engine landing in that aircraft.

I am flying seminoles here in florida where the temp sometimes gets over 100F. On some flights I have been able to maintain altitude at 5,000ft with left engine feathered. It is rare but I have done it. The seminole is a very capable aircraft and its very easy to fly, its just extremely slow.

Here's a fun eye opener. Have you tried pulling back both engines to zero thrust to sim losing both engines? Hey . . it could happen, right? At 5,000 ft AGL or less, things happen real fast in finding that place to land and setting up for the landing. Bet you come up short the first time you try. :-)

until you forget to put it back in.

Just bring the right throttle above idle on the feathered engine to stop the gear warning sound. It is much better than pulling a circuit breaker.
-
I wouldn't have pulled the gear horn circuit breaker on a real mid air engine quit. But you should keep it on anyway. For whatever reasons. The only circiut breaker i ever agree with that can be pulled is autopilit if its malfunctioning thats it.
-
All due respect, that is not a good practice. Some have done that and forgot to reset the breaker concluding their flights with gear up landings. Even a B-1 crew in Diego Garcia made that mistake. Caused several hundred thousand in damage.
Sorry to say this but being a Baron lover, seeing Barons being used for pilot training is like warbird lovers seeing P51s being used for student pilot training. It just ain't right. Seminoles or DA42s are much better for pilot training, it just makes sense.

@HDaviator I agree, but Seminoles do not really have enough power to maintain safe altitudes on 1 engine in the summer in PHX. The DA42's do not have a great record for flight training. Many of the 42's out here used for flight training commonly limp home on one engine, and although that is valuable training, not really safe or economical. Seneca would be better, but a Seminole is still the best option for flight training.

who is the pilot flying? I recognize that this is a mesa plane and i go to mpd. Just wondering who was flying and who the instructor is...it sounds like ryan erickson

Neither the PF or the instructor are at MPD anymore. And I don't know who Ryan is.
