I received a request some time ago: "I remember using the Debug mode in S3&K that you can enter the 2P Race Zones as if they were 1P. Do you think you can do that?"
At first I thought that it was impossible, I also asked Blackcanoflysol (who is a Debug master, check his videos), and both of us didn't have clues.

But then I randomly found that this is actually possible. Not in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, but in the simple Sonic 3.
Follow the steps showed in the video, and have fun.
The output is REALLY glitchy that is almost unusable, and the loops won't work properly so you won't go far in the level. But still, it works.

Enjoy.

  • Does anyone know how to get debug mode on sonic mega collection sonic 3 for ps2 it is possible I just dont know how!

  • the code is the same as the plain Genesis version.

  • I imagine this has to do with the declaring of the variable for lives and rings. I bet you the engin for multiplayer is not designed for that. I don't remeber two player taht much, but I think it uses a different engin than single.

  • I don't know how it works, but here's my guess. there is a flag somewhere in the RAM that stores the last level played when you enter a special stage. then, at the end of the special stage, the engine reads that flag and starts to play that zone. since by using the debug mode you can get to the special stage in a non legit way, the engine does its best, trying to load the 2P stage in this funny way. it's only a guess anyway, and this implies that the flag isn't cleared during this process.

  • I never been able to get debug mode on Sonic 3 by itself. Only on Sonic 3 and Knuckles. DO you know the code and how to do it on Sonic 3 alone?

  • it's really hard to get it to work. you have to press Up,up,down, down,up,up,up,up AFTER the SEGA screen but BEFORE sonic jumps in.

    good luck.

  • @guamkid no. It's just corrupted LEVEL data, not corrupted GAME data

  • good vid

    the shits broke

  • In EMZ, the HUD looks like knuckles in sonic 3 beta has had something to do with this. and Sonic 3 has got to be the glitchiest sonic game ever!

  • Press up,up,down, down,up,up,up,up after you see the SEGA logo and the screen goes black.Make sure you do this before Sonic disappears. If you did it right, you'll hear a chime.Press up on the main menu to go to sound test and hold B(on the Gamecube)as you enter a level. This is a very hard code to input.Don't get discouraged if it doesn't work the first few times.

  • it looks like as if you corrupted the game,it looks THAT glitchy.O_o

  • Extremely glitchy lol. good vid tho

  • I did this when I was younger. I ran into some crazy stuff!!!!

  • Very good discovery and video! Very professional! 5/5! How do you get debug mode in Sonic 3?

  • This is a good discovery, though the level is ugly!

  • I noticed the first time you went into Azure Lake, there was the score time and ring counters that aren't there normally. The Life counter wasn't there though. I wonder what would have happened if you played it like it was the first time around.
