Here you see all the techniques used to produce a Trough. Starting with a log in the round using a process of cleaving, trimming, roughing out with a hand adze, shaving and carving it is possible to produce a Trough that can be utilised in the kitchen, or anywhere in the house for that matter.

  • great Job, is the wood Birch?

  • Thanks for the comment. No, the wood I am using is Cherry

  • Really nice work! What would you call the hook-shaped tool you used to do the "finish work" as you hollowed out the trough and where would I buy one?

  • Thanks for your comment. As regards the tool, it is not so unsurprisingly called a hook knife. Your best bet is to talk to a local Blacksmith to get one made up. I am sure he or she would be glad to help. Good Luck.

  • Looks like you tie the hook knife to a cord. Is the other end of the cord looped around your shoulder?

  • Yes, that is right. The cord goes around the neck for more purchase and not the shoulder.

  • That question has already been answered further down the page.

  • Does cherry have any toxins in the wood? Like cyanins? When trimming it I used to get queezy.

  • Wow, very impressive !!
