  • in the mid 90s i played in an adult baseball league, and an umpire we had was on a ship in the pacific... he was a little guy in his 70s and told me about shooting a 20mm at jap planes... he had a very strong grip... i think his grip was still strong from gripping onto that 20mm shooting the kamikazes! he said something i won't forget, a kind of resentment that we don't still have many of the islands we pushed japs out of, he felt the sacrifice, but not reward - interesting...
