I used to wonder too about that, "lonesome"? Great song, but the ending "oooooooo" used to scare me a bit.

IA looked up kangaroo and there are over 50 species. Even a tree kangaroo.

Yep, it's the original version! I remember seeing this as far back as Season 3, although I'm pretty sure it's one of the first animal clips from '69.
As much as I love his work, I don't know if Joe Raposo also wrote the lyrics, but to me, they sound pretty negative against kangaroos! I mean, how can it be lonesome with a baby in its pouch? ;)
