@beergut66 What I know is that SRV was a decent studio guitarist (although no where near on the level of a Steve Lukather), an unimaginative Jimi Hendrix cover artist and a Blues pretender who worn silly hats.

Jimi Hendrix was in heaven complaining to God that he didn't have any real guitarists to jam with...so God brought Stevie home.
...damn they died too young...I selfishly wanted to hear more from them. I hope to here them play live again some day...

I respect both of them, but SRV is not Hendrix in any way and we're better off this way. hendrix (along with zeppelins and other epochal bands) defined what we call modern rock. heavy and homogenous beats, fat guitar sound ... they have set fundaments for every rock musician onwards. SRV just stuck with blues and probably took it to another level but in a sense of musical evolution he didn't contribute much, but he sure is equal to jimi, page, beck etc for the history of music
