listened to mike sweeney on capital gold now known as gold radio enjoy requesting songs that he refused to play lol three wheels on my wagon , max bygraves , middle of the road . lol the best 1 was he could not pronounce gilly gilly osterfeffer catchen bogen by the sea live on air lol hes a great dj miss him on gold radio station best dj of them all mr oricall a genious of musical knowledge

Strewth! I didn't know he was still going. Mike Sweeney was on Pennine radio when we were at Bradford Uni 24 years ago, and I thought he was great. Then heard him on Piccadilly 1152 in 1989 (and he played my hit parade!). He's still got it.

I love listening to Rock Radio, especially Drive Time with Sweens and Dewsbury. It may not be some people's cup of tea, but for me personally it was great to find a station that I could leave on all day and know that it wasn't going to be wall to wall throwaway pop and had DJ's that I enjoyed listening to. Keep on sausage rollin', Sweensbury!

He's dead right, Radio in this country is limp. I dont work in the radio industry, but it sticks out like a sore thumb when you tune in that all these stations are owned by a couple of big groups. They all sound the bleeding same day in day out. No new records, no jingles, forced laughter on the breakfast show, with the same old morning groupies blah blah. I dont blame the DJs, there are some very good people out there, it must be frustrating as hell when you cant spread your wings.

Mike reminds me of the kind of DJ I remember from when I was a kid in the 70s... No ego and passionate about the music.
