Israelis rally against gender segregation

Thousands of people have gathered in a town near Jerusalem to protest against ultra-Orthodox Jews whose campaign for gender segregation has erupted into verbal and physical abuse against women.

There were no clashes on Tuesday in Beit Shemesh between the participants and the residents who have recently been filmed spitting at a woman and verbally harassing an eight-year-old girl.

Protesters held signs at the protest saying "Free Israel from religious coercion" and "Stop Israel from becoming Iran".

Al Jazeera's Cal Perry reports from Beit Shemesh, 30km to the west of Jerusalem.

If the law required girls but not boys to pierce their ears, yes that would be sex discrimination. And ear piercing is not analogous to permanently removing a health sexual organ from a child's genitals. Same with tops on the beach. Not comarable to denying rights to one's children, having to wait longer to retire, forcing into combat, based on sex.

And as far as the draft, how does the age change the fact that it's sex discrimination? Are you that stupid? Age discrimination is a very different issue. Everyone goes through the age process and there are good reasons to set age-based laws like the right to drive, vote, etc. that's not the same as sex discrimination at all.
