Sort of a devotional piece inspired by the Ismaili Ginan Kalpat Jalpat Maayaa E Mohee by Pir Hassan Shah. Note this is truely an inspired piece and not the actual ginan itself.

It is payed in the Arabic scale which can be seen by the FLAT 2nd's. This would be in the Arabic scale known as Maqam Shahnaz (Shehnaz) but it is very similar to what I had previously known to be the jewish scale (as seen in the song hava nagila). (See Below) If you would like to know more about Arabic Scales there is a great web site http://www.maqamworld.com

Please do tell me what you think and please feel free as always to comment good, bad or ugly

The Jewish Journal was kind enough to write to me, the following correction is made by them. I reviewed the website and think it is a wealth of knowledge - Thank You Jewish Journal "Technically, I think the scale is known as the 'Hizam Mode.'

http://www.mandolincafe.com/niles2.html has an explanation" Once again thank you

  • This is the A jewish scale isnt it the notes your playing is A A# C# C E F G A ?

  • If you read the info about the scale you would be delighted that the scale has a name. Actually the Jewish Journal shed some light on the scale

  • Augmented 2nds???

This scale is just root, flat 2nd, third, fourth, fifth, flat 6th, Aug7. I don't hear any Augmented 2nds anywhere. Besides an augmented 2nd is just a flat third as in the blues scale.

  • Thanks Buddy! the notes should have read Flat 2nd's all along. share the blues scale with me, do you have a video of how it goes?

  • lovely scales, nice playing, bless

  • this is the mode/scale maqam shahnaz (shehnaz) - a transposed hijaz kar scale. transposed to D. D is the tonic with the dominant on A. Hijaz tetrachord an D and on A. (D Eb F# G A Bb C# D).

  • dude this is at the D tune right??? nice video anyway

  • In fact, all due respect to the Jewish Journal, the actual name of this scale is "Phrygian dominant scale", or "harmonic minor perfect fifth below scale" in jazz..

It really close to the double harmonic scale, that you get by sharpening the 7th degree.

    Wish it could help
