  • @JoanneChristie Latin is one of those languages that "sounds familiar" to us even when we don't know it. I like to think that it's part of our collective "memory" in the west. From ancient Rome, which along with Greece gave the west much of its structure, through the Middle Ages and up to our own time, Latin was the official language of the Church, of monarchs, of universities, and of the educated everywhere. It's regal sounding, connects us to our past, and truly was once, "universal".
