In the video "Automatic Lego Mindstorms Canon" you can see a detailed description of the canon systems.

This version uses a RCX as a transporter, communicated with the NXT brick which is the brain of the canon. It uses a Pneumatic system for more stability during target seeking and shooting. With one motor the RCX powers the compressor and moves the pneumatic valves simplifying the design.

The canon is double and it uses rubbers to shot small bullets. Notice the Lego differentials used as clutches to accumulate and quickly use the energy stored in the rubbers. This makes the design fast, robust and compact. There is an automatic bullet loading system (see the chain in the left of the magazine) to avoid bullet accumulation in the canon. In the previous video you can see how it works.

To seek and point the objectives I use a 2 axis positioning system with NXT servomotors. To compensate the canon weight I use 2 suspension springs so the inclination servomotor can work faster. The objectives are detected with the microphone and the Ultrasonic distance sensor. As you can see a loud noise near the sound sensor is used to deactivate the canon and return to initial position.
