Capoeira in Syria

It's nearly a year now since capoeira's started in Syria. This Video was made by a member of the first capoeira school in Damascus: Companhia Pernas Pro Ar.

Founded in 2007, Companhia Pernas Pro Ar Syria seeks to promote understanding and awareness of the cultural interactions and shared histories between greater Syria and South America.

Just as Syrian-Lebanese migration and commercial investments have influenced contemporary Brazilian cuisine, literature, and the performing arts since the late nineteenth century, we would like to facilitate cultural exchange today through the practice of Brazilian sports and arts in contemporary Syrian society. Our school is dedicated to educating our students and audiences about Brazilian culture and the benefits of capoeira as a means of physical activity, a celebration of the arts, and an opportunity to meet others from diverse backgrounds.
