11 time NL gold gloves. He had a .296 career batting average and 162 career home runs. Won the Gold Glove award at first base for every year between 1978 and 1988. Hernandez' career fielding percentage was .994 with only 115 errors in 19.591 chances.
On two World Series Championship teams: the 1982 St. Louis Cardinals and the 1986 New York Mets. Had 2,182 hits in his career and had more walks than he did strikeouts. Only Decent offensively? Please. What a joke. Clutch batter. PERIOD!

"MEX!!" Another leader and was the anchor of the lineup. He is also one of the great fielding first baseman of all time.

I agree Keith was a good player with decent offence and superb defence, his commentaries now are great. There are blowouts that I watch just to laugh at what Keith is saying. His remarks are priceless.

Keith was a very good player during his day, but lets be honest here,he is such a knit picker,he complains about everything (just that tone of voice of his)...."this player is lazy that player is lazy ,he should come to play everyday" but I guess he doesn't practice what he preaches, how many times have we listened to him say "how the game is too long and that he wants to go home in time for dinner".oh by the way in closing,Ron Darling is Brilliant ,Gary Cohen is top notch and Keith isa Dummy.

Defensively, he's definitely the best ever. But overall, no, not even close.
My favorite MET too.. but certainly not the best 1B ever.. although he should be in the HOF.
