This video will take you on a virtual tour of a square foot garden growing outside my window. This very effective method of farming was invented and popularized by Mel Bartholomew (he used to have his own educational TV show that ran for eight years on two or three networks). I wanted to show the garden that I had growing last year, but there were so many problems with the uploader that I decided to leave it until this year. Plants in the garden include: radishes, green beans, nasturtiums, four o'clocks, sunflowers, lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, and marigolds. Please let me know what you think, and THANKS FOR WATCHING!!! :-D

  • No. I have never heard of any problems with chemicals from concrete blocks in square foot gardens. But an alternative building material for constructing the planting box is planks of wood screwed together in a square shape. Either way, you can grow a very successful garden with this method! :-)

  • u should throw one mj seed in there u would be good at growing nething

  • @3xslady I wonder the same thing... I am wanting to paint the outside blocks also but im sure the paint chemicals could leak through the blocks to my plants

  • and I'm about to follow w/ this type in 2012. Thanks for inspiring!

  • did you plant anything this season?

  • Did you plant a garden this year?

  • great idea, thanks for giving such a detailed tour!

  • Great video. I have used cinder blocks for over 5 years and they work great. I rotate crops in them while planting marigolds in every other square to help with pest control. Good luck to you.

  • Looks good but maybe you want to thin out some of the squares. Looks like the radishes and the beans were bit thickly planted. Nice design. Everyone could find these in a city.

  • @moneyman1934 I know about the original square foot gardening using the wood. But i already have some center blocks that i'm not using, and when i saw your video i thought what a great idea to use those and i would'nt have to spend any money. I will do a search on the internet and see what i can find out concering the concrete blocks. Thanks for the reply!
