This screencast demonstrates gtk+-widgets, which are rendered offscreen to a buffer, implicitly animated via OpenGL. Each widget is rendered as a texture mapped onto a quad. The shown approach uses the GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap extension of GLX in order to get a fast means for constant updates to any changes of the widget. Input works (mouse, keyboard) for the non-transformed wigets. For more info visit http://macslow.thepimp.net

  • I have to admit that the spinning GtkHScale is a stupid example, but I was lazy.

Using GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap for these small widget-pixmaps isn't going to burn much RAM on the graphics-card. Besides it's only used for selected widgets not for all.

  • Awesome in so many ways! I'm gonna have to try something like this soon :)

  • lol funny

  • Good to see Gtk+ improving its own eye candy, but shit, that spinning GtkHScale widget made me wanna kill somebody.

Also you've gotta wonder how this will work out since it uses GL_EXT_texture_from_pixmap, like compiz fusion does, seems like a recipie to run out of vram.
