Demonstration of how to remove the top end of a gas cylinder from the mechanism of an office chair. For this part, you need a hammer and a special tool from the chair manufacturer. For complete instructions, see http://www.osmondgroup.co.uk/gc/

  • I'm not sure we can be much help here, I'm afraid. We have never heard of the zizbangout and we are based in the UK so hiring one of our tools won't be an option. The other important thing about Herman Miller chairs, including the Aeron, is that the gas cylinder is not a standard product so you will need to remove the seatpan in order to disconnect and reconnect the top clamp to the release cable. I suggest you find a friendly local Herman Miller dealer for help.

  • The tool is a specialist item supplied by a chair manufacturer. If you are in the UK, we can hire it to you for a small charge. It may be possible to do this without the special tool by tapping the chair chassis with a rubber mallet. With regard to swapping the size of gas stem, please be careful about chair stability once this has been done & you may need a footring in order to support your feet. Finally, there are lots of different cylinder shapes & sizes so be sure that the new one fits.

  • Thanks for this video... saved me a few minutes. a chisels and a mallet work fine. Take the bottom off the chair so you can see the pressure release valve... set the chisel on the mettle ring and give it a few good whacks all around the ring. Pops right out. Then flip over as shown in vid #2 and pop it out of the wheel base.
