Clingmans Dome is the highest peak in Tennessee at 6643' and the highest peak in the Smoky Mountain National Park. Clingman's Dome is the second largets peak east of Mississippi.

It was a really fun day hiking backpacking the Appalachian Trail at Clingmans. It is a Canadian forest alive with the smell of Christmas Trees (Red spruce and Fraser Fir).

There were also dead and dying trees from Acid Rain, The Biosphere, Harsh Winter Ice, and some insect that can be brought over with firewood from northern states as close as Kentucky.

Core samples have indicated that over the past 100 years that the trees do grow as fast and large as they used to. The good news is there are indications that the trees may be able to build up immune resistance and survidefences against

The core samples of trees indicates that they do not grow as fast and large as they did 100 years ago. The god news is that some evidence suggest the trees are developing natural defenses to help protect against environmental threats.
