The wonder of modern rotary wing aircraft, the AW-101 Merlin, exercises vertical recovery from a navy corvettte, while sailing off Praia da Vitória, Terceira, Azores.
The Merlin has a max cruise speed of 278 Kph and an action radius for SAR operations of over 400 nm.

The Azores, were rated 2nd best island destinations by National Geographic Traveller magazine.

  • The ship is the honorable NRP "João Coutinho" the first of its class. She was 40 years old just a month ago. One of the best corvette designs in the world, soon to be replaced by "Viana do Castelo" OPV.
