The manufacturing giant Boeing's newest Dreamliner - still in construction - is being hailed as a revolutionary breakthrough because it is made out of ultra-light carbon fiber (CFK). But Grob Aerospace in Mattsies, Bavaria has been producing planes consisting almost entirely of carbon fiber for more than 30 years.

Grob's business jet 'SPn', the first carbon fiber passenger plane, is just about to be released on the market. The new passenger jet will be much more economical with fuel and much more stable than its competitors. The 8-seat plane costs 5 point 9 million euros. And 80 firm customers are already waiting. Made in Germany reporter Patrick Benning visited the innovative plane manufacturer. The company's risk has paid off, but the price was high: in 2006, a test pilot died in a failed test flight.

  • Most German Aircraft patents were stolen by the U.S. after WWII under the Morgenthau Plan. In fact, a great part of the American post-War economic expansion was based on stolen German technology and German brain drain.

Germany lost most of its Aerospace high tech and Von Braun headed the American Apollo Program which took man to the Moon.

It is good that some German engeneers were left trying to rebuild that economic sector.

  • German engineering is probably the finest in the world, V2 Rockets, BMW, Volkswagen, Maglev and AMG!

    And they're reliable.

  • I'm German but to think we are superior in Technology is arrogant. Fact is, the Germans can hardly effort there own products. We need affordable cars. We are good in producing expensive cars and high end machinery but we are even more successful in exporting jobs. What's left is the jobs which Germans don't want because living on social welfare is easier then picking fruits, cleaning hotel rooms or building highways.

  • am i wrong or is germany the most modern and succsessfull country in the world?!

  • @themagnussons i'm agree and not agree with you in the same time. Because immigrants are held the jobs that Germans do not want (pick fruits and vegetables, wash cloths, garbage, water the lawn ...)

Indeed, Germany was actually one of the relatively more tolerant countries towards Jews before WW2. The Jews gave much to Germany and their contribution really must not be forgotten.

Many Jews had ancestrally lived in Germany for so long that they effectively had the "Jewishness" bred out of them leaving only Jewish culture and religion for distinction. In this sense, it can be understood that much discrimination against them was not only capricious and arbitrary, but spurious and easy.

  • @xaviqaz well eurocopter was 2 firms before MBB ( messerschmitt bölkow blohm) which produced the famous Bo 105 and BK 117 which further developed ended in the EC 145. and aerospatiale french firm known for the alouette 1-3
