Nick Katzman is one of the foremost guitarists playing blues, acoustic and electric, on today's music scene. As a youngster he was taught by many of the great old country blues masters such as Mississippi John Hurt, Mance Lipscomb and Reverend Gary Davis, as well as Stefan Grossman and Rory Block. He has shared the stage with quite a number of world-class acts (including Johnny Winter, Robert Cray, Eric Burdon and the Allman Brothers). He has accompanied many senior American blues artists: Champion Jack Dupree, Carey and Lurie Bell, Louisiana Red, Eb Davis and Katy Webster. He worked, as well, for many years as guitarist and band leader for the New York blues shouter Guitar Crusher.

  • That's not a steel guitar. That's a National style resonator guitar, fingered with the left hand (and later on with an additional slide). A steel guitar is played with a heavy steel bar(hence the name) in the left hand while lying on the players lap (lap steel) or standing on legs (table steel). This guitar played by Mr. Katzman is made out of metal with a single aluminium cone inside the body to enforce the tone. But it's not a steel guitar.

  • Thanks a lot.

  • silasbuc...I agree about the life changing bit.if you can find it get "Panic When The Sun Comes Down" at all costs it stands up there with the work of Ry Cooder..

but this guy is also a gent...when I eventually tracked him down around 2000 on that recent internet thing..he sent me free CDs of his old albums..and was very encouraging about our own music..

I hope hes still out there [Berlin was last address] playing those blues..

  • Really Great! I love it. I grew up in NYC, neighbors and friends with this Maistro Nick. Glad to see he just keeps getting better and better.

    Best, Michael
