This is yet another of several special reports put together buy the folks at WTVJ channel-4 (CBS) in Miami just a few days after powerfull Hurricane Donna tore through the Middle Florida Keys with 140-MPH sustained winds. Donna was a strong cat.-4 storm and hit on September 10th 1960. The late great Ralph Renick will be your host for this special report. "Good night, and may the good news be yours".
My Dad and Mom are shown at the end of this Clip! Col. Robt J Philpott was my father. I remember riding out that storm in the closet with water up past our knees. The roof tore off around 2am and my Mother was almost killed by a falling beam from the Catholic Church mentioned in the Clip. It blew into our house. I was with my Dad when he drove Ralph Renick, the Reporter for WTVJ, and Bishop Carrol around Marathon the next day. These pictures are real and I remember those scenes. - Dick Philpott

This was happening at the time I was born. I was born at Broward General in Fort Lauderdale and my mother seems to remember it quite well.

Wow... I really had no idea that there were so many local specials were produced on Donna... and so quickly after the storm moved through. Between 0:49 and 1:07 it looks like Ralph Renick is pretty handy with a marker and tracking chart...lol
