Part 2 of 2

Video shot October 30, 2009 from on board Amtrak's Empire Builder as it passes through western and central Minnesota. When they're on time, both east and westbound Empire Builders travel through this area very early in the morning when most passengers are attempting to sleep.

Scanner audio was recorded using a scanner hooked up to a voice recorder set to go off only upon the transmittance of sound. Select portions of the recording were dubbed into the video during post-processing.

  • Why u cut out going thru the engine terminal?

  • @buckshideout My batteries died. By the time I got fresh ones into the camera, we had passed through most of the yard.

  • Thanks for such a great video. AND with no stupid music to cover the serene sounds of the train at night. So peaceful and relaxing. I've watched both your videos many times, always at night. I'm currently watching from Brisbane on the east coast of Australia.

    Cheers and thanks again.

  • They have to go slow through the Fargo area and the yard, but they can open up to 65-80 miles per hour on the mainline.

  • how fast (or slow) was this train going?

  • I remember the DLK station building like it was yesterday (July 2005 to be exact). It was rather cold for July and the train didn't arrive until 5 or 6 that morning. Still, though, nice to remember the memories as I recall them: darkness, some lights, more darkness, and repeat until you reach the downtown station.
