My mom and dad took my sisters and me to Lowry Park Zoo for the first time in 1957. I was four years old at the time. Over the years as we were growing up we made many trips to Lowry Park for birthday parties and special occasions. It was always a good time.
We grew up and started families of our own and I brought my son Ricky to Lowry Park on many occasions during the early 1980's. We lived nearby so it was convenient and Ricky really enjoyed the rides and the animals. During that time the park was becoming rundown and was just a glimmer of what it had been when I was his age.
Ricky passed on in 2009 due to pancreatic cancer, but his spirit lives on in his five year old daughter Lauren featured in this video of Lowry Park as she makes her own memories just as we all did as she follows in her fathers footsteps and explores the many nooks and crannies and the large collection of animals at Lowry Park
Lowry Park has been rejuvenated and looks better than ever with all the improvements. One day Lauren will bring her children to Lowry Park so that they can make their own memories just as we all did.
Thank you to all the volunteers, workers, the Lowry Park Zoological Society and the City of Tampa for saving Lowry Park and preserving it for all the great memories and the memories still to come.
Rick, I enjoyed watching the video with your granddaughter....Making memories...Hope all is well.....
