Be sure to watch in HD (720p) - the audio quality is also much better.

I happened to hear this song on the radio a few months ago (for the first time in a very long time) and thought to myself, "you know, despite how overplayed this was in its day, it's actually a pretty good song with nice harmonies". And so, since there's not all that much to it, and because I haven't really done a song yet from this particular era (late-80s/early-90s), I figured I'd give it a go.

This song was originally written and recorded by Extreme and it appears on their album "Extreme II: Pornograffitti" (1990). I recorded my version one afternoon back in December 2009, and finally got around to filming the video a couple of weeks ago (procrastination ftw!)

Recording notes: This is a fairly straightforward cover, with one exception - the original album version includes an odd metal-esque finger-tapped solo near the end of the song, which I decided to cut out. I did this for two reasons: 1) it always felt completely out of place to me; and 2) I honestly did not feel like wasting my time sitting down to listen and try to figure out all those really quick soft notes. I mean, I probably could have done it if I really wanted, but since I think the song is actually better without it, I just decided to cut it out altogether. Otherwise, the only other difference is that I added a second guitar part which more or less doubles the main part, except with a few minor differences here and there to add a little variety.

An mp3 is available here for anyone who's interested:

Enjoy!

  • Wow,beautifully performed and edited.

  • @MsPaleMoon thanks, Ms Moon!

  • sounds great! I'm trying to do this with two kids in school who are pretty good but i can't get the 2nd harmony because I've sung the 1st for so long. Any tips or any chance you could post the 2nd harmony mix. keep up the good work fellas.

    cheers.

  • @northgrecianmusic Thanks! I don't have anything with the 2nd harmony readily available, but I was just thinking, I wonder how the original song was mixed... I haven't listened to it in a while, but it might be possible that each part is primarily panned in one of the channels (L and R). Have you tried listening to the song out of only one speaker? Maybe the second part can be isolated that way. It's just a guess, but maybe that will help. Good luck!

  • Well so no twins so you know how to use a good video program( i thought you made it with a good program but not sure) The way you are singing is simply MAGNIFICIENT 5 i hope i use the right english word to tell what i mean) listening to singers like you makes life better, you are actually my favourite singer on y tube, i will sign you to be the singer in my next band!!!!!!Beautifull guitar i am not sure to read the Logo, which manufacters is it? Oggy from France

  • Merci, Oggi! You are too kind. Also, oui, vos paroles (mots?) sont tres bonnes (excusez mon Francais horrible). Anyways, thanks a lot.

The twins "trick" is really simple and can probably be done in just about any video program (although I'm not 100% sure about that). The guitar is a Taylor.

  • Hey, Tracy! Nice to hear from ya. Thanks.

Unfortunately, that song is one of many things that just fell off my radar over the last few years. There's only so much free time I have, so unfortunately I never got around to it. I will see about maybe looking into it again at some point, though.

    See ya!

  • Thanks! And no, it's only me alone...

...but man, if I DID have a twin, making these videos would be soooooo much easier... if only.

  • Great voices, beautifull harmonies!!!

    are you twin brothers ?

  • I Love You!! Great to see and hear you again.

Hey, have you had a listen to the song 'Far Country' yet ? Do you like the song, I think it is magical. Would love to hear you sing it.
