Tower Hamlets Mayoral Assembly
Mayoral Hustings organised by TELCO (The East London Communities Organisation)
6 October 2010 at 7pm
Venue: St Mary & St Michael Church
2 Lukin Street, Commercial Road, E1 0AA
Lutfur Rahman addressed a packed TELCO husting meeting last night at St Mary & St Michael Church in Stepney. Alongside all the other candidates who are standing he put forward his plans about what needs to be done in Tower Hamlets to build a better borough for all to live and work in.
The Telco event was an opportunity to listen to the policies he's drawn up on the 'Living Wage', 'City Safe' and Housing issues, as well as why he will be the best person to be Mayor of Tower Hamlets. He met with Telco's other membership organisations' representatives from Tower Hamlets Unison, Queen Mary College and Metropolitan University Students, Church and Mosque Faith organisations and Tenants Management Organisations.
He promised to build on the many positive things he achieved for the Borough when he was Council Leader. He has also promised to find the means to complete the refurbishment of the Poplar Baths, Victoria Park and the Bancroft Road Local History Library. He will also ensure the Bethnal Green WW2 'Tube' disaster memorial is built.
Lutfur Rahman's presentation and political commitment was well received and he the audience gave him the longest applause than the other four Mayoral candidates.
The Mayoral candidates are:
Lutfur Rahman (Independent)
Alan Duffell (Green Party)
John Griffiths (Liberal Democrat Party)
Neil King (Conservative Party)
Abas Uddin Abbas (New Labour Party)
