| First step of my "Valco Test" |

- A 1958 National "Val-Trol Baron" plugged to an old european fuzz pedal & going to a 1957 Supro "Spectator" home amplifier.
- The pickups were alternatively tested from bridge to neck position
- Amp was at the 1/3 of its maximum volume

As I was pretty tired & hungry for the test, I'm pretty sorry now of the lack of playing imagination... Gasp !
Finally, this guitar is the most versatile of the three, in tone comparison...
It has the "Val-Trol" PUs selection system with the "Bridge-Tone" (built-in-bridge) magnetic pickup, & two fat single coils...

  • It's funny but some of your groove reminds me of Ry Cooder gospel rythmn thing ! The Valco sounds good

  • Thanks to comment Jipes !

I guess that any "Ry Cooder connection" would be pretty fortuitous as I've been culturally based on rock'n'roll...

Anyway, blues is the root & I can see that Ry Cooder's contribution is praiseworthy concerning blues & guitar playing (for the too few that I know of him).

However, I've read that he was used to "Teisco" single coil pickups... If it's true, these ones are different than the Valco ones (less powerful & fat), but interesting too !!
