Art's Birthday 2010

The Mississauga Arts Council (MAC) teamed up with the City of Mississauga to present Arts Birthday. Celebrated around the world, Arts Birthday commemorates the official birth of art as declared in 1963 by French artist Robert Filliou.

Arts Birthday took place on Saturday, January 16 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the E...rin Meadows Community Centre located at 2800 Erin Centre Boulevard in Mississauga. The event featured an afternoon of free family fun including art installations, childrens workshops, artist trading cards, underwater performances, birthday cake and more!

MACs programming kicked-off with a Caribbean Dance Workshop at 1 p.m. hosted by choreographer Colleen Phillips. Children, teens and adults attended the workshop and learned an array of Afro-Caribbean dance steps to live drumming.

Award-winning Bboy and choreographer Marcel DaCosta aka Frost Flow hosted a Breakdance Workshop. Dancers the learned street moves while exploring the roots of Hip-Hop. Frost Flow is the founder of Ground illusionz, Mississaugas foremost Bboy dance crew.

Professional actress Melanie Miles hosted an Improv Acting Workshop. Actors of all ages joined Melanie as she entertained participants with a variety of games. In a positive and creative environment, participants were encouraged to see the lighter side of life using hats and props to exercise different parts of the brain to learn a skill of thinking on ones feet.

Carla Casanova heated up the stage as she lead an Open Mic. Artists joined Carla as she performed her original music until 5 p.m.
