I wanted to start practicing my Final Cut Pro X skills so I started editing some footage together of a trip we took to Iceland last summer. I definitely felt like this version of FCP was intended to make the editing process fast. I love that about Final Cut Pro X. There are a few things that definitely take some learning, but overall I loved it. My biggest wish after doing this project? Time Remapping instead of just being able to speed up a clip.

  • This is absolutely stunning. I'm just curious- beyond the software, what camera(s) were you using? I'm leaving for Iceland in two months and currently I'm just using a Sony NEX3 which is kind of like DSLR for dummies.

  • @linkjc75 Everything in this video was shot with the Canon 5D MKII. Have a great time in Iceland! It's ABSOLUTELY stunning!

  • Wow! Great shots! Love the part where you were driving over the long bridge, as well as the time lapse. :-). Did you use smoothcam on the bridge part to get it so smooth?

  • @RealtyStudioHD Yeah, you can see the distortion on some of the bumpier parts. I thought about knocking the stabilization down a bit, but... alas, I was lazy and just left it. Haha!

  • WOW! nice one, was that HDR stuff done inside FCP?

  • @mossmad The HDR was done using Photomatix Pro and FCP7. I made them a few months ago before FCPX was out. I'll be interested to see how that process compares in FCPX. I actually think it won't be as easy, but as a sidenote, I prefer doing that portion in Adobe After Effects anyway.

  • Your time lapses are beautiful - better get started on that while Im still in Iceland, its such a good idea to do it sorrounded by this nature here!

  • Fantastic video! I'm working with FCP X for the first time with my new GH2 and your tutorials are incredibly helpful. Much appreciated!

  • Great job!

  • Thank you for sharing. The driving across close to the water fall looked scary to me but thank the Lord you made it okay!

  • @RealtyStudioHD Yeah, used FCPX's stabilizing feature. I know FCP7 had it as well, but it's nice and easy in FCPX. Used a Manfrotto car mount for the shot.
