Ethics in the Field: An Inside Look at the Israeli Occupation Forces

Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) Colonel Ben Tzion Gruber spoke at the Austin Dell Jewish Community Center on March 4, 2010.

Protestors started gathering outside the center about an hour before his lecture, carrying signs "Judaism-Yes, Zionism-No" and "Ben Tzion Gruber, WAR CRIMES are not ethical."

The controversy arises from the fact that a community center such as the JCC-Austin would allow, and even co-sponsor, the lecture of a man who is directly involved in the violation of International Law and is responsible for directing 18,000 soldiers in human rights abuses in Occupied Palestine.

The Palestinian people suffer under apartheid conditions as inhabitants of Israel, a country where they make up almost half - 5 million - of the population.

Ben Tzion Gruber spoke to an audience of about 100 mostly middle aged people about how ethical the IOF is, claiming it is the most ethical military in the world today. The IOF has violated more International Laws than any other military.

Gruber dismissed the white phosphorous bombs used by the IOF in Operation Cast Lead as simple smoke bombs. The Goldstone Report has extensive documented evidence that the IOF used white phosphorous bombs against civilians, one of many war crimes the IOF refuses to stand trial for.

As the lecture attendees left the JCC Austin, they were met with more protestors and more signs such as "read the GOLDSTONE REPORT online" and "Stop Israeli Terrorism."

Protester Jeff Zavala stated "I believe that the Palestinians under occupation are the single most oppressed people in the world today, that's why I'm here tonight."

Protests across the country are increasing due to the fact that the apartheid in Israel-Palestine is increasingly seen as a human rights issue and not an issue of religion or nationalism.

Gruber is touring the country lecturing until late March and will include Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, Santa Barbara; Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, New York, New Jersey; Miami, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa Bay, Houston, and Washington D.C.

There will never be peace for Israel so long as it denies equal rights to its non-Jewish citizens, and continues to occupy and brutalize its neighbors in Palestine. The BDS movement is working, as it worked in South Africa. Israel has only one friend left in the world, and even the United States is becoming tired of zionist whining and begging.

About creating one state, fine Idea if The Israelies and the Palestinians didnt have such a great cultural differences and emotional and historical baggage against each other. Let the people have two states which voth will be able to run their lifes in a way that suits them. The same as trying to force democracy on Iraq, it just wont work. Another thing is that you said:"the zionist emperial project". First of all what kind of empire is at a size of less than New Jersey, and if Israel had imperialis ambition it wouldnt give back the Sinai half island to Egypt as a part of a peace agreement.

As for the Arabs in the land, most of them were immigrants who came to the land after the Jews setteled there in order to work for them. Most of the land was bought by jewish people. After the Holacaust the world understood the need for a jewish land. While Israel was created in 1948 6 arab countries declared a war on them. most of the refugies were arabs who ran away after they lose, some of them were driven out, yet the same thing was done to jewish people.

First of all Palestine was a name given to a territory by the British occupation, first he was given by another emperie tha Romans called it palestina by an ancient people lived in the Gaza streep which has nothing to do with the current Palestinians. So there was no Palestinian nation when Jewish/zionists started to resettle the land, there were arabs who conquerd the land before 1400 years. The zionist movement started even before the holacaust long before.
