In 1952, a sulfur-laden smog covered London and was responsible for 4,000 deaths over a two-week period. Dr. Devra L. Davis has researched and written about the October 1948 air pollution tragedy in Donora, Pennsylvania, USA, her hometown. People literally asphyxiated.
