The new musikFabrik production of Stockhausen's 'Michaels Reise um die Erde' has the trumpet soloist in a portable crane for half of the piece.
This is arguably the most difficult passage to play, and it involves the most extreme movements of the crane.
Each stagig of this piece pushes the idea further! Originally Markus Stockhausen played inside a rotating globe in Milan 1981, then rode a spinning and orbiting satellite in London 1985 , and now Marco Blauuw is freely floating in Space... a breathtaking production I exoect to see in Paris this December.
